Your questions answered

At Smile Prosthetics, we take your trust seriously. You can expect transparent communication from us from start to finish. Do you require more information before getting started? Below are some frequently asked questions:

What are immediate dentures and how are they different from conventional dentures?:

Immediate dentures are a type of removable dental prosthesis custom-made to replace extracted teeth the same day as your removal. These same-day dentures are for individuals who have had all their remaining natural teeth removed. Conventional dentures are for individuals who have already had their teeth extracted for over six months.

How long can I wear immediate dentures before needing a permanent liner?:

Patients are seen immediately after their immediate denture procedure for tissue
conditioners or pillows to be placed within their dentures. The tissue conditioners will help soften the contact between the hard acrylic and your fresh extraction sites. You'll be in a tissue conditioning liner for around six months. Once most of the healing is completed, we'll remove your tissue conditioners. Your denture will be permanently relined in our laboratory.

Are there any risks or complications associated with immediate dentures?:

Your mouth and ridge will be severely swollen and sensitive for the first couple of weeks after your surgery. During the healing process, the tissue along the ridge where your teeth were extracted will change often. This can cause your denture to be loose and make sore spots. Our denturist will schedule several post-op adjustment appointments with you to make sure your denture maintains a proper fit and that you experience fewer sore spots.
